Lilomi Kids
Join the board of Lilomi, a small UK charity supporting vulnerable children in Sierra Leone. Help guide our partnership with JCC, a vibrant school and family centre, through education, health, and community programmes.
What difference will you make?
As a trustee of Lilomi, you will help shape the strategic direction of a small, dynamic UK charity working alongside a trusted local partner in Sierra Leone. You will support our efforts to provide education, care, and life-changing opportunities for some of the most vulnerable children and families in Bo. This is a vital role. Your insights and contributions will directly influence how we grow our impact — from building classrooms to running a family support programme, to launching new initiatives like an Infant Care Centre for motherless babies. You’ll have the opportunity to bring your unique skill set to a cause with deep human significance, ensuring our work is effective, ethical, and sustainable. Your voice on the board will help ensure that children in Sierra Leone are not left behind — and that their communities are equipped to thrive.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for trustees who are passionate about equity, education, and child welfare, and who want to contribute to a small, hands-on charity with deep local partnerships. We welcome people from all backgrounds, and are especially keen to hear from individuals with experience or interest in Charity fundraising or grant applications Finance, budgeting, or charity governance Communications, digital media, or storytelling Early years, safeguarding, or international development West African or Sierra Leonean community experience or connections You do not need prior board experience — we will support you to grow into the role. We are committed to building a diverse board and welcome applications from people of all ages, ethnicities, faiths, and lived experiences. Above all, we are looking for trustees who are collaborative, curious, and willing to commit their time and skills to a cause that truly transforms lives.
What will you be doing?
Lilomi is a UK-registered charity supporting vulnerable children and families in Sierra Leone. We work in partnership with Jonathan’s Child Care (JCC), a thriving school and family centre in Bo, delivering education, health, and family strengthening programmes. JCC is a well-respected community hub that supports over 500 children through school, parenting support, and a growing range of care initiatives. Lilomi has historically focused on capital projects – building classrooms and sanitation facilities – but we are now entering a new phase of long-term, programmatic support. We’ve recently launched a Family Support Programme and are raising funds for a new Infant Care Centre for motherless babies – the first of its kind in the country. We are looking for new trustees to help guide this exciting next chapter. The board currently includes experienced professionals with backgrounds in international development, safeguarding, and programme management. We would love to strengthen our team with people who bring skills in fundraising, charity finance, governance, communications, or lived experience of Sierra Leone or West African contexts. Trustees meet quarterly online and collaborate on strategy, fundraising, and oversight in between. We are especially keen to welcome voices from more diverse backgrounds and encourage expressions of interest from younger trustees, members of the African diaspora, and those new to board roles. This is an opportunity to help a small charity with a big heart grow its impact — and to help ensure vulnerable children and families in Sierra Leone have the care and opportunities they deserve.
