Risk and Compliance is a Second Line of Defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as ‘the First LOD’) to ensure that they effectively manage as ‘Risk Owners’ the risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of ‘Risk Stewards’ who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Risk and Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of financial and non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.
Role Purpose:
This challenging role requires a leader and individual contributor with strong communication and stakeholder management skills as well as subject matter knowledge. It requires the ability to deliver multiple Group-led or Regional regulatory deliverables concurrently and at pace including ad-hoc deliverables.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Implement a consistent and effective approach to portfolio management across Wholesale businesses.
• Assist with the coordination of local Change Delivery related to Large Exposure reporting and monitoring, other internal reports, Wholesale Policies and Portfolio Management.
• Support the LOBs, Approvers, CROs and Heads of WCR through provision of data and intelligence on the data to drive effective risk management.
• Risk Policies – Modifies regional credit policies so that they are current and meet business and approver needs, while aligning with local regulations. Provides inputs to Global policy development through participation in relevant groups/fora.
• Regulatory – Supports local initiatives (with PRA/DFSA) in regulatory engagement exercises mandated by regulators, directly or through the Group/Region.
• Governance – Provides inputs to projects aimed at aligning methodologies, governance and policies around the Group. To ensure adherence to Group’s standards in all relevant activities.
• Portfolio risk management – Provides senior WCR management with both internal and external indicators to identify emerging trends in the wholesale market. These trends are then expected to be actioned in agreement with the business to adjust our risk appetite accordingly. Produce aspects of wholesale credit packs and information requests from Global teams, Regulators and WCR senior management. Assist in conducting both regular and ad-hoc strategic portfolio management reviews of countries, sectors and customer types. Monitor against regional and country portfolio concentration caps.
• Build strong relationships across country, regional and Global WMR teams, adopting a joined-up approach, to support execution of responsibilities
• Building strong working partnerships with Regional Global Business and Finance teams.
• Engage with WMR Risk leadership to understand key local challenges in translating group strategy, develop understanding of impact to realization of targets.
• Analyse stakeholder goals and effectively manage their expectations, addressing any misalignment to minimise conflict and promote cohesion.
• Responsible for managing challenging stakeholder situations across a regional remit in a credible and culturally aware manner.
• Supporting colleagues across the Region to facilitate awareness around Regional Portfolio Management, Policy, Reporting, Systems and Project best practice.
• Provide guidance and support and constructive challenge on initiatives
• Accept full responsibility and accountability for deliverables as required
• Attend senior Exec committees and forums as required

• Manage control operator responsibilities in relation to large exposure reporting.
• Coordination and oversight of regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk.
• Explore ways to streamline policies and the extraction of portfolio information and the subsequent monitoring of it.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
• Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit, Degree level or MBA or equivalent experience beneficial
• Preferably a MA or advanced degree or equivalent, preferably in Finance, Economics or equivalent
• Good knowledge of risk metrics both internal and external – able to interpret them for the use of risk management
• Strong conceptual skills (business models, organizational design) and analytical skills (business performance, market & competitive dynamics).
• Strong Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for investments and alternatives in the language of business
• Commitment to drive high quality deliverables
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Excellent negotiation, influence, mediation and conflict management skills.
• Excellent problem solving skills and ability to provide creative solutions
• Excellent quality oral and written communication
• Tableau MI creation and Python or R programming skills
