Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital and Charity
We welcome applications for an exciting opportunity to gain additional training and skills in paediatric palliative medicine during a two-year fellowship. We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate post-CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) paediatrician to join an innovative and progressive multi-disciplinary team working across organisational boundaries to serve the needs of life-limited children across the West Midlands. Birmingham is an interesting and challenging place to work with many areas with high deprivation indices, a diverse demographic and twice the national prevalence of children with life-limiting conditions.
The applicant must have written evidence of approval in principle from their current employer/line manager for the necessary change in job plan to accommodate this fellowship at the time of application. The proposed date for interview is 11 July 2025 with a start date for Fellowship programme 3 Sept 2025.
The programme is part time (5 programmed activities per week) and will be based at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The programme will include extensive experience with inpatients, outpatients, community and hospice patients in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. The caseload varies from antenatal to transition age children with a broad range of symptom management and diagnoses. The work will require flexibility, adaptability and independent transport means to meet clinical needs. It will include providing out of hours telephone support to clinical teams. The programme has been approved by the RCPCH College Specialty Advisory Committee for SPIN (Special Interest) accreditation.
