Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Material Engineer / Lab Technician with proven experience in roads and utilities projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, analyzing, and ensuring the quality of construction materials, including asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soil, to meet project specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Testing & Quality Assurance:
• Conduct laboratory and field tests on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials.
• Ensure all materials comply with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Analyze test results and prepare reports on material performance and quality.
Site & Laboratory Operations:
• Supervise material sampling and testing procedures in both field and lab environments.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as sieves, compression machines, ovens, and asphalt testing devices.
• Perform compaction, moisture content, density, and durability tests for road base and subgrade materials.
Compliance & Reporting:
• Prepare detailed material test reports and submit findings to the project team.
• Ensure adherence to AASHTO, ASTM, BS, and local standards in material testing.
• Assist in troubleshooting material-related issues and recommend solutions for quality improvement.
Coordination & Documentation:
• Work closely with project engineers, contractors, and suppliers to maintain material quality.
• Maintain records of test results, calibration certificates, and laboratory activities.
• Provide technical guidance on material selection and mix designs for roads and utilities.
Requirements:
Education & Certification:
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
• Certification in material testing (such as ACI, ISO 17025, or equivalent) is preferred.
Experience:
• proven experience in material testing for roads and utilities projects.
• Strong knowledge of asphalt mix design, concrete mix design, soil stabilization, and compaction control.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in laboratory testing procedures for soil, asphalt, and concrete.
• Familiarity with testing standards like AASHTO, ASTM, BS, and local authority regulations.
• Experience with nuclear density gauges, compression machines, and bitumen testing equipment.
Soft Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent documentation and reporting abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork.
Work Conditions:
• Field and laboratory-based role with site visits.
• Requires working with heavy equipment and hazardous materials.
• May involve extended work hours based on project requirements.
