To source, negotiate, and manage the supply of high-quality fruit and vegetable products for the supermarket at competitive prices, ensuring availability, freshness, and compliance with quality standards while supporting the company’s discounter model.Key Responsibilities:1. Product Sourcing & Buying:· Source fresh produce from local and international suppliers.· Build and maintain relationships with growers, importers, and exporters.· Analyze market trends and seasonal availability to plan procurement strategy.2. Supplier Management:· Negotiate cost, volume, delivery terms, and payment conditions.· Conduct supplier audits to ensure food safety, ethical standards, and sustainability.· Monitor supplier performance and resolve quality or delivery issues.3. Inventory & Availability:· Work closely with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure optimal stock levels.· Monitor daily availability and take corrective actions to avoid overstock or shortages.4. Quality & Compliance:· Ensure all products meet internal quality and food safety standards.· Coordinate with the QA/QC team for inspections and certifications.5. Pricing & Profitability:· Monitor pricing trends and competitor activity to maintain competitive pricing.· Work within margins and profitability targets while delivering value for money.6. Category Development:· Collaborate with merchandising and marketing to introduce seasonal promotions.· Provide input into product assortment decisions and store presentation standards. Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.Good understanding of produce seasonality and international sourcing.Excellent communication, analytical, and planning skills.Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced retail environment.Knowledge of food safety standards and certifications.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in purchasing or sourcing within the food industry, specifically fruits and vegetables.Experience working with local and international suppliers to understand diverse sourcing dynamics.Fluency in English is essential, with additional language skills in Spanish or Mandarin being a plus.Strong negotiation skills, with a proven track record of securing favorable terms with suppliers.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster strong supplier relationships.Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.Personal qualities should include adaptability, attention to detail, and a passion for sustainable sourcing.
