Position Overview
The Community Recreational and Leisure Programs Counsellor will help develop and implement a new community-based initiative aimed at engaging and supporting youth in the Beechwood area of Moncton throughout the spring and summer months. This position will focus on planning a summer activity schedule, ensuring appropriate resources are in place, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for at-risk youth.
This role is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in Sport and Recreation, Youth Engagement, or Community Development and is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Planning
Design and implement a structured summer program schedule, including recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to the needs of youth.
Identify and organize appropriate resources, equipment, and supplies to support daily program activities.
Develop processes and procedures for safe and effective program delivery.
Daily Program Operations
Lead and oversee the day-to-day delivery of the program, ensuring activities are engaging, age-appropriate, and inclusive.
Actively engage with youth participants to build trust and promote positive relationships.
Monitor participant attendance, behaviors, and program outcomes, addressing challenges as they arise.
Ensure safety protocols and guidelines are adhered to at all times.
Youth Engagement and Support
Create a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages youth participation, creativity, and skill development.
Identify opportunities to engage with at-risk youth to promote social inclusion and community connection.
Work one-on-one with youth who require additional support, providing guidance and referrals to other services when appropriate.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
Collaborate with local stakeholders, partners, and volunteers to enhance program delivery.
Act as a liaison between JHS, the day to day leads, the City of Moncton, and the community to promote the program and its impact.
Participate in outreach activities to encourage participation and community awareness.
Program Monitoring and Reporting
Track program activities, attendance, and engagement metrics for reporting purposes.
Provide regular updates and feedback to the Program Manager on program successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Assist in the preparation of an end-of-program summary report outlining achievements and recommendations for future growth.

Applicants must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident.
