Position OverviewBotho has an immediate opening for a Research Associate in Nairobi or Dubai. A successful ResearchAssociate will be detail-oriented, have a close familiarity with key issues (geo-political, economic,and developmental) in Africa and the Gulf Region, and possess strong research/writing skills.Experience and interest in working on investment promotion issues are a plus.The Research Associate will report to the Head of Policy and Analytics in Botho’s Nairobi office.Roles and Responsibilities :As a Research Associate, your responsibilities will entail (but may not be limited to) the following:● Conduct and support research and analysis on policy issues and industry trends, includingconducting literature reviews, proofreading, fact-checking, and editing documents.● Research data sources, update and check existing data; master underlying methodologiesand concepts of key economic data; prepare databases; present results in a final,professional format; explain all facets of data along with implications for ongoing research.● Ensure publication quality control by editing, proofreading, and commenting on texts.● Research professional contacts in think tanks, academia, government, and media, andrepresent Botho in external meetings with key stakeholders.● Draft policy reports, short policy columns, and articles to influence the policy debate● Co-author blog posts, memos, and op-eds with senior management.● Assist with the organization of meetings and conferences.Position Requirements:● Bachelor’s degree in business, political science, international political economy, internationalrelations, or other related field is required.● Language: Fluency in English required. Proficiency in French or Arabic preferred.● Knowledge of international development issues required, demonstrated interest in Africaneconomic and development issues preferred.● Prior experience working or traveling in Africa or the Gulf region is required.● Must possess the poise, tact, discretion, and mature judgment to be able to work under thetight deadlines in a high-pressure team environment, and interact with high-profileindividuals from public and private sectors.● Excellent primary and secondary research skills. Desirable: previous experience managing atleast one research project end-to-end.● Excellent analytical skills, including strong quantitative skills.● Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to communicatecomplicated issues for a nontechnical audience.● Must be able to identify sources with minimal direction, compile reports, and articulate andorganize findings.● Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.
