Job Description PROFILE The candidate s teaching and research focus is on digital and parametric design methods that advance construction in the built environment through open innovation. Application areas include, but are not limited to, building components, modular construction, advanced materials testing, and design for disassembly, defining the technical and expressive language of new architectural typologies , enabling a shift from static form-making to adaptive, regenerative, and high-performance built environments, developed through prototyping, simulation, and digital design workflow. The successful candidate is expected to develop novel concepts, tools, and platforms that merge parametric control with digital craftsmanship, while fostering connections to industrial applications. This research contributes to the development of innovative projects exploring material performance, building components, and construction systems. Responsibilities Teach 12 credits, typically resulting in one design studio and two taught courses a semester, including student academic mentoring Research through the classic academic realm via research projects, innovations, publications or industrial/architectural design, construction/digital fabrication practice. Publications at a level appropriate for the discipline and designation. Applications to external research funds Service to support the administrative side of the department, school and the university or extracurricular activities for students, staff, and discipline. Participation in departmental activities and administrative life. Positions of administrative responsibility at the departmental/school level. Qualifications/Experiences Successful applicants to the position of Assistant Professor of Practice should possess: A terminal degree in architecture Ten years of university-level teaching experience full-time at the undergraduate and graduate levels Ten years of professional experience in the architectural design field with an emphasis on computation Fluent in English Areas of expertise in two or more of the following areas: Proficiency with Rhinoceros Grasshopper Proficiency with climate-responsive design Proficiency with advanced visualisation tools Familiarity with emerging trends in machine learning and AI Priority will be given to applicants with a Canadian/ North American education background and/or Professional Practice.
